If you are selling on Amazon.ca, the Canadian Government announced that they were offering a GST/HST sales tax holiday starting on December 14th, 2024 until February 15th, 2025.  This means that some tax codes need to be updated on your amazon.ca sku level listings.  Here is a process on what you need to do and how to do it.

What Is Being Impacted?

Full list of items are listed here on the Canadian Government Website.  Some of them can be a little tricky as the targets are for children under the age of 14 so some items are targeted towards adults. https://www.canada.ca/en/services/taxes/child-and-family-benefits/gst-hst-holiday-tax-break.html

What Do We Need to Do?

There are some new categories that need to be updated with new codes that Amazon generated plus make sure existing products that will be impacted have the correct tax code assigned.  Amazon already had some, which you need to update.

If you sell the following products and determine that they are eligible for GST/HST relief, you must manually apply new product tax codes to your eligible products. On December 11, we’ll generate five new tax codes that you can apply to these products before December 14:

Children’s toys and games	A_GAME_CHILD
Jigsaw puzzles	A_GAME_PUZZLE
Video game consoles, video game controllers, physical video game media	A_GAME_VIDEO
Christmas trees or similar decorative trees (including artificial)	A_HOLIDAY_TREE
Audiobooks	A_BOOKS_AUDIO

If you sell products with the following product tax codes, the GST/HST rates will be updated automatically on December 14, 2024, to reflect the temporary GST/HST relief. No additional action is required for the 0% GST/HST rate to apply.

But remember you need your items to have these tax codes assigned at the sku level.

How To Do The Update?

You can either manually update each sku or use our cheat sheet to update them with a bulk upload.

This should save you a bunch of time.  I found doing it manually also required me to update if the toy had a battery which took even more time.  If you only have a few skus manual is probably easier but over 20-30 I’d be looking to do the bulk update.
